Payment statuses explained
Understanding the different payment statuses is essential for managing and monitoring your payments. Below is a guide to help you identify and interpret each status.

Cancelled
Definition: A payment marked as Cancelled means the payment process has been terminated manually, and no further transactions will be processed for that payment record.
When it occurs: This status is typically assigned manually when a client requests to cancel their payment plan, and all subsequent payments are permanently stopped by choice.
Implication: The payment agreement is no longer active. The client will not be charged again unless the client signs up for another payment.
Completed
Definition: The Completed status indicates that the payment has reached its natural end date and the mandate has been completed.
When it occurs:
One-time Payments: The status will be set to Completed once the payment has been processed, and the mandate has been completed.
Recurring Payments: The payment status will be updated to Completed when the recurring payment reaches its natural set end date.
Implication: The payment mandate is no longer active. The client will not be charged again unless the client signs up for another payment.
Paused
Definition: A Paused status means that payment is temporarily halted but can be resumed in the future by setting the status to Running.
When it occurs: This can be done manually if the client chooses to put the payment on hold for a certain period.
Implication: No payments will be processed during the paused period. Once resumed, payments will continue as per the original agreement.
Pending
Definition: The Pending status means that the payment is in the process of being reviewed or completed, but it hasn’t been fully processed yet.
When it occurs: This status is typically seen when a payment is awaiting approval or the payment is still a draft.
The system blocks Pending payments from being set to Running if the processing date is less than 7 days away. For example, if you schedule a one-time payment for 7 days from now and mark it as Pending, you won't be able to set it to Running 5 days before the processing date because the payment window has closed.
Running
Definition: A payment with a Running status indicates that payments are being successfully processed as per the agreement.
When it occurs: This status is active when payments are ongoing and being collected on schedule (e.g., monthly, annually) without any issues.
Implications: The payment is active, and charges will continue to be processed as planned. The status will remain in "Running" until it is either cancelled or stopped.
Rejected
Definition: A payment has been permanently stopped. This status is only used by the backend.
When it occurs: This status is often applied when the payment fails like a dispute or when payment issues (e.g., insufficient funds, successful dispute or fraud) occur.
Implication: The client will not be charged again unless the client signs up for a new payment.
